Salesforce Turns Slackbot Into a Full Enterprise AI Agent With 30 New Capabilities
Salesforce just gave Slack its biggest overhaul since acquiring it for $27.7 billion in 2021. At a keynote event in San Francisco on March 31, CEO Marc Benioff unveiled more than 30 new AI-powered capabilities for Slackbot, transforming it from a conversational assistant into a full enterprise agent.
The update is the most sweeping change to the platform since Slackbot first launched in January 2026 as a personal AI assistant on Business+ and Enterprise+ plans. As VentureBeat reported, the product now has close to a million weekly users. Slack's interim CEO Rob Seaman called it the fastest-adopted product in the company's 27-year history.
The headline addition is MCP client support. Slackbot now functions as a Model Context Protocol client, meaning it can route tasks to Agentforce agents, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Notion, Workday, ServiceNow, and over 6,000 apps in the Salesforce AppExchange, all from a single conversation without tab-switching.
Meeting intelligence is another major feature. Slackbot can now listen in on calls across any video provider, including Zoom and Google Meet, transcribe the conversation, surface relevant CRM records in real time, and log action items automatically when the call ends. As TechCrunch noted, users who miss details during a meeting can simply ask Slackbot for a recap, including tasks assigned to them.
A new desktop agent extends Slackbot beyond the Slack app itself. It can read what is on a user's screen, understand context from other open applications, and execute tasks using existing permissions with no new installs required. Voice input lets users update their CRM or trigger workflows through a quick mobile conversation.
Slackbot runs on Anthropic's Claude. Implicator AI reported that Salesforce chose Claude partly because Anthropic was the only provider meeting FedRAMP Moderate certification requirements when Slack began building the system.
Reusable AI skills allow any team to define a repeatable workflow once, with the inputs, steps, and output format set upfront, and have Slackbot invoke it automatically whenever a matching prompt is detected. The Salesforce announcement page notes that inside Salesforce itself, teams are already saving up to 20 hours per week, generating over $6.4M in productivity value.
Small businesses also get a native lightweight CRM built into Slack. Slackbot reads channels, detects when deals or contacts are mentioned, and keeps records updated automatically. Teams can scale into full Salesforce CRM later with no data migration required.
CCS Insight analyst Maria Bell told Computerworld that the updates signal a shift from a collaboration tool to an operational layer for agentic work, adding that the focus is moving away from individual tools and toward systems that connect processes, data, and applications. Seaman echoed this framing, describing Slackbot as the front door for the agentic enterprise.
Microsoft, with Copilot deeply embedded across its 365 stack, remains the most direct competitor in this space. Whether Slack's open MCP architecture proves a stronger draw than Microsoft's closed ecosystem could determine which platform enterprises standardize on for agentic workflows in the years ahead.
Availability: Slackbot is live now for Business+ and Enterprise+ subscribers. Starting in April 2026, Free and Pro users will receive a limited set of included conversations. From summer 2026, every new Salesforce customer will have Slack automatically provisioned and connected from day one.
