Apple's Redesigned Siri App: What Reports Say About Privacy-First Chat and Auto-Delete Feature
You can expect a major shift in how the tech giant approaches conversational AI as per Bloomberg's Mark Gurman [blocked] reports. He has stated that Apple's Siri app in iOS 27 will include privacy features unique to the chatbot market. Moreover, an overhauled version of Siri in iOS 27 will be introduced, evolving the personal assistant into a more capable chatbot and AI agent able to compete with ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.
Reports suggest Apple may integrate Google’s Gemini models into a new standalone Siri chatbot experience, though Apple is expected to maintain control over how user data is processed.
How the New Siri App Works
Based on current reports, the redesigned Siri app could include:
- Conversation history - Access all past Siri interactions in one place
- Voice and text input - Switch seamlessly between typing and speaking
- File uploads - Share documents, images, and other files with Siri
- Multiple access points - Use standard Siri activation or swipe down from top center for "Search or Ask" mode
- Chatbot interface - Redesigned conversation view matching ChatGPT and Gemini layouts
- Personal context - Siri taps into your personal data to take actions across apps
- Back-and-forth conversations - Engage in natural, multi-turn dialogue for complex tasks
- Search results - Get detailed answers with bullet points and images sourced from the web
Privacy-First Auto-Delete Feature
Apple is preparing a redesigned Siri experience with a dedicated chatbot-style interface. Unlike many conversational AI platforms that store conversations longer to improve personalization, Apple is expected to emphasize shorter data-retention options.
According to Bloomberg, users will be able to go to the settings panel within the Siri app and choose to keep conversations for 30 days, one year, or forever. Apple contends that these privacy protections should be built into the system by default, not something users have to manually enable.
Gemini-Powered, Apple-Controlled
The company will be running Gemini-based Siri on its own private cloud compute servers, rather than just handing all of your data directly to Google. Google shouldn't use your Siri conversations for model training.
Apple and Google reached a formal agreement that will see Apple testing a custom 1.2-trillion-parameter Google AI model in Siri. According to reports, Apple is paying roughly $1 billion annually for this custom Gemini implementation.
iOS 27 will introduce a system called "Extensions" that allows users to install rival AI chatbots and route Siri queries through whichever model they choose, including Claude, Gemini, and ChatGPT. Users will be able to select their preferred AI service through the Siri settings, giving them full control over which models power their assistant.
Beta Launch Expected at WWDC 2026
Apple is expected to preview iOS 27 at WWDC 2026, its annual developer conference scheduled for June, with a public release likely later in the fall.
WWDC is Apple's annual gathering where the company unveils new operating systems, frameworks, and software features to developers. The conference typically sets the direction for Apple's software roadmap for the coming year and gives developers early access to test new tools and APIs.
The operating system would ship publicly in September 2026, following Apple's typical release schedule aligned with new iPhone hardware announcements in the fall.
